Official Cornhole Rules According to the American Cornhole Association(NOTE: The full, official cornhole rules write-up is available at the following link: http://www.playcornhole.org/rules.shtml) Cornhole SetupCornhole is played between two individuals or between two teams of two persons each. To setup the playing area, two 24" x 48" cornhole boards are placed, lowest edge facing each other, 27 feet apart, measured from the front edge of each platform. There are two 4' by 3' areas to either side of the cornhole platforms, known as pitchers' boxes, where the cornhole players stand and toss their corn bags at the opposite cornhole, a 6" diameter hole in the cornhole board. Cornhole GameplayEach individual player or team is allowed four corn bag tosses per inning, with innings completed when both players/teams have tossed all four of their bags. Play alternates as follows: one cornhole individual/team makes all their throws, and then the opposing individual/team is allowed to make their throws. Cornhole ScoringA corn bag toss that lands in the cornhole (either by being tossed into the cornhole, or knocked into the cornhole by a subsequent throw) is worth 3 points; a toss that lands and remains completely on the cornhole platform is worth 1 point. Play continues until one individual or team reaches 21 points. If the score is tied at the end of an inning with 21 points for each side, play continues sudden-death style, until, after an inning is completed, one player or team has a higher score. Tosses that hit the ground or another object in the playing field (e.g., a tree branch) before landing on the platform are considered fouls and do not count as points. That's it! Cornhole is simple enough for children to understand, but challenging enough to satisfy adults! |
